60 years of humanity in the St. Elisabeth house: a festival of care
The 60th anniversary of the “Haus St. Elisabeth” nursing home was recently celebrated in the heart of St. Pölten. This event not only emphasized the importance of human care and professional care, but also the responsibility that the facility bears for its residents. The direction of Michaela Schipper-Schauer, together with numerous guests of honor, including Caritas director Hannes Ziselsberger and Mayor Matthias Stadler, made it clear how important such institutions are for the community.
The "House of St. Elisabeth" was initially inaugurated as a dormitory for pensioners in 1964. Over time, however, the needs of the residents changed, which led to a focused approach in nursing. From the late 1990s, a new care model was introduced, which was inspired by Professor Erwin Böhm. This activating nursing shape aims to take into account the individual needs and life stories of the residents. Brigitte Drechsler, the nursing director, emphasizes the importance of the dignity and self -determination of the residents, even in advanced dementia cases. This philosophy has contributed to the fact that many residents achieve more stable health conditions.
insight into the care offers
The facility currently offers space for 137 residents who are looked after by 90 committed nursing staff. In addition to long and short-term care, there is a transitional care center with 12 beds for people who need support after hospitalization. An expansion of the house in 2014 enabled the creation of other offers, including a Caritas learning café and advice centers for families and psychotherapy. In addition, two starting apartments are available for single women and two assisted apartments for people in psychosocial service.
At the ceremony, the politicians expressed their recognition for qualitative care in the St. Elisabeth house. State Councilor Teschl-Hofmeister emphasized the commitment of the nursing staff and called the house a place of well-being. Health Councilor Königsberger-Ludwig addressed the increasing challenges due to demographic change, which will bring an increase in the need for care. The mayor of St. Pölten, Matthias Stadler, caught the praise and said that the positive development of old -age care in the city was significantly attributable to the work of the house.
The "House of St. Elisabeth" remains not only an important point of contact for people in need of care, but also a symbol for the further development of geriatric care in the St. Pölten region.
