Everyday commuting life in the Melk district: challenges and tips for the trip
In the Melk district, the topic of mobility is discussed vividly, especially the pendulum conditions, which are not very satisfactory for many residents in the past and in current form. The commuting from the Scheibbs district to Linz, as the commuter Jürgen Heigl describes it, brings numerous challenges. He is forced to use a combination of car and train every day, which gives him a monthly financial burden of around 330 euros. The lack of train stop in Pöchlarn for trains such as Railjet and Westbahn is particularly frustrating, which makes the situation even more complicated.
A solution seems necessary to reduce the increasing pressure on the commuters. According to Heigl, an improvement in rail connections would be of crucial importance in order to move more people to use the train.
overloaded parking facilities
Another urgent topic is the parking facilities in the district. The municipality of Melk has been faced with a disappointing parking situation for years, especially with regard to the comprehensive provision of sufficient parking spaces for commuters on the ÖBB property. Despite an expansion of the park and ride offer in 2011, the demand remains so high that the parking spaces are regularly overloaded. Discussions with the ÖBB about a further expansion of the parking facilities have so far been unsuccessful. The implementation of digital surveillance systems to control parking space uses progress, but has not solved the problems.
