The Stein-Mautern Danube Bridge is facing comprehensive renovation after the state of Lower Austria, today, on December 23, 2024, published the preliminary information for the tender. This measure is not surprising, because the bridge has been in a questionable condition for years. According to the press office of Deputy Governor Udo Landbauer (FPÖ), the age-related wear and tear, in particular due to salt effects, led to the maximum resilience had to be reduced to only 5 tons. In order to describe the critical condition of the bridge, speed limits have already been introduced to 30 km/h and the walking and bike path has been blocked since December 2024.

In the second phase, the existing structure is renovated, possibly with a widening of the road. However, there are still negotiations with the Federal Monument Office to take into account the monument protection. "With this preliminary information, we set a clear sign that we not only plan, but also take concrete measures in order to secure this important bridge for the future," said Landbauer. This information was also found on orf.at .
The planned maintenance measures should continue to have access to the bridge until the replacement bridge is completed. It is crucial that the bridge, which represents an important transport connection, will be put back into a traffic -proof state as soon as possible. The falling measures are a cornerstone for the future of the transport infrastructure in the region, as the tenor of the regional political representatives, as also on
