The Stein-Mautern Danube Bridge is facing comprehensive renovation after the state of Lower Austria, today, on December 23, 2024, published the preliminary information for the tender. This measure is not surprising, because the bridge has been in a questionable condition for years. According to the press office of Deputy Governor Udo Landbauer (FPÖ), the age-related wear and tear, in particular due to salt effects, led to the maximum resilience had to be reduced to only 5 tons.
