Lower Austria's ski areas are booming: winter tourism at a record level!
Niederösterreich, Österreich - ski areas in Lower Austria celebrate the highlight of the season!
This year the ski areas in Lower Austria have a sensational increase in visitor numbers. The number of 660,000 visits means an impressive increase of 25 percent compared to the past three winters. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) is pleased about this positive development and emphasizes that the ski areas are again at a level as before the corona pandemic. Despite mild temperatures and a lack of precipitation, technical snow production could be maintained. Mikl-Leitner emphasizes: "People used the many sunshine and got on again, we noticed that in the ski rental".
Nevertheless, Markus Redl, Managing Director of the state's own Ecoplus Alpin GmbH, expresses concerns about the economic challenge that the high technical snowmaking brings. "We are very economically challenged to cover the increased effort by revenue," explains Redl. The winter season now ends almost in all ski areas, only the Hochkar mountain railways will be in operation until April 6th. The introduction of the Lower Austrian Berger experience Pass was another success; This has been used over 90,000 times in his first winter season, as Mikl-Leitner reports.
The positive trend and the increasing number of visitors are a welcome relief for the operators of the ski areas. The snow, although artificially generates, contributed to the fact that the winter season became a complete success.
