Exciting home rally in Krumbach: Waldherr triumphs in front of Baumschlager

The OBM Land of the 1000 hill rally caused exciting moments in Krumbach. With 13 demanding exams, the teams took exceptional challenges. While the first rain days were shaped by rain, the drivers were able to enjoy the weather on the second day and benefit from autumn sun rays. At the top, there were two rally sizes right from the start that fought for the overall victory.

The focus was on Luca Waldherr from Zöbern and Record State Champion Raimund Baumschlager, who started as an experienced pilot in the Skoda Fabia Rally2. For Waldherr, who drove in the Citroën C3 Rally2, a victory at home would have a special meaning. On the first day, Waldherr had a strong performance with three tests won, while Baumschlager won two exams. After the first stage, Waldherr had a narrow lead of 3.5 seconds.

competition between Waldherr and Baumschlager

On Saturday, after a relaxing night, Baumschlager dominated the sixth special test and took the lead with 3.8 seconds ahead. But Waldherr showed the fighting spirit and met Baumschlager in the subsequent exam with a quick time that brought him back first place. The duel continued during the circuit in Kirchschlag and on the demanding route in Haßbach. Waldherr was always able to react quickly and drive out of time.

In the last four exams of the competition, Waldherr was 6.9 seconds ahead of his competitor. He secured the special tests 10 and 11 at a flowing pace and impressively showed that he reacted perfectly to the signs of the route. Finally he went over the finish line with a lead of 24.5 seconds and achieved his first victory this season.

Championships and personal votes

Thanks to this success, Waldherr also secured second place in the overall ranking of the Rallye State Championship. Simon Wagner, who had already become champions before the rally, was missing in this race. Nevertheless, the other challengers, including Julian Wagner and Michael Lengauer, were potential threats for Waldherr's placement.

The Zöberner local hero expressed his joy about the victory and the preservation of the runner -up title: "I wanted the victory and now I'm almost speechless. Raimund has struck a very high speed, but we have remained flawless and just happy." Baumschlager, who reached second place, was satisfied despite his position: "The second place is like a win for me. I believed that I can keep up for a long time, but then I made a mistake. I am pleased that I could also hold second place."

The organizers of the rally also announced how important it was to carry out the event climate -neutral. All vehicles were operated with green electricity from renewable sources to minimize CO2 emissions during the event. Particular attention was paid to the digital preparation of program booklets, saving costs and protecting the environment.

The rally not only offered exciting competitions between the drivers, but also took a look at environmental awareness and innovations in the motorsport event.
