Serious traffic accident in Püttlingen: two injuries after collision

In the early evening there was a serious traffic accident in the Saarland city of Püttlingen, which called numerous rescue workers into the Köllerbach district. Around 7:30 p.m., the accident occurred on the heavily frequented main street, shortly in front of a restaurant at the intersection between Sprenger Straße and Bärenbergstrasse. The two vehicles involved, a red Toyota Yaris Cross from the district of Saarlouis and a silver-colored Toyota C-HR with approval in the Saarbrücken regional association, came together head-on.

An eyewitness reported that the vehicles were thrown a few meters across the street due to the force of the impact. The silver car stayed across the road, while the red Toyota partially stuck to the sidewalk. A third vehicle, a black VW Golf from Völklingen, was touched on the mirror and slightly damaged. The alarmed rescue workers, including the volunteer fire brigade, the emergency services and the police, quickly arrived at the scene.

The fire brigade moved out with over 30 helpers and four vehicles, while the emergency services were on site with several ambulances. Fortunately, the inmates of the two main vehicles were not trapped and received immediate help from first aiders. The two men in the accident cars were treated in the ambulance and then transported to surrounding hospitals. An alcohol test was carried out at one of the drivers, although the exact results are not yet known.

In order to ensure the safety of the emergency services, expiring equipment was bound and the accident site was completely locked up. The fire brigade also ensured the illumination of the accident site. The special thing about this incident was that both main vehicles were hybrid models, which made it difficult to protect the large batteries in the vehicle. The route remains closed until further notice between the Sprenger Straße and the church path.

The situation not only represents a challenge for the rescue workers, but also leads to considerable traffic disruptions in the area. Passing drivers are asked to bypass the area and observe the closures. The police will start the investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
