Lower Austria celebrates athletes of the year: Bontus and Hudson shine!
At this year's Lotterien Sporthilfe Gala, the most outstanding athletes in the country were honored. The coveted “Niki” awards were awarded in a festive atmosphere, and the big winners of the evening come from Lower Austria: the Kitesurfer Valentin Bontus and the javelin thrower Victoria Hudson prevailed in their categories.
The event took place in the Wiener Stadthalle, where about 1,300 guests came together to celebrate the best athletes in the country. These awards are organized by Sports Media Austria, an association of sports journalists in Austria.
powerful athletes
"The successes of Victoria Hudson and Valentin Bontus testify to their extraordinary skills and their commitment. These awards are more than earned and inspire the younger generation to strive for top performance.
Valentin Bontus, who comes from Perchtoldsdorf, recently won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris. This was the first competition in the Olympic Formula Kite class, and Bontus was impressive what he had on it. His path to the gold medal was crowned with a bronze medal in Hyères in the previous World Cup.
Victoria Hudson caused a stir at the European Free Air Cup in Rome this year when she secured the European Championship title. This was a significant success because it has been the first gold medal for Austria in this competition for 53 years. In addition, she improved the ÖLV record with a throw of 66.06 meters and thus secured a place in the world annual best list.
awards for all
The "Niki" Award were awarded in a total of 12 categories, and in addition to Bontus and Hudson, some other talented athletes from Lower Austria were also able to achieve excellent places. These include climbing Jessica Pilz and the disabled athletes Veronika and Johannes Aigner, all of whom ended up in the top 3 of their categories. The award as a trainer of the year went to Kilian Fischhuber, who promotes climbing in the region.
Nico Langmann, who is active in wheelchair tennis, received a special mention. He was awarded for his commitment to give children in a wheelchair access to sport. This recognition shows that it is not only about sporting achievements, but also about the positive influence that athletes can exercise in society.
Ex-professional Dominic Thiem was honored with a special award for his life's work. The former world number third and US Open winner will soon end his career at the ATP tournament in the Vienna Stadthalle.
These remarkable achievements of the Lower Austrian athletes once again demonstrate the high level of sport in the region. The Sporthilfe Gala not only celebrated the successes, but also showed how important the use and dedication of these athletes are for their sport and society.
