Neunkirchen fights with 7.5 million euros in minus in the 2025 budget!

In the district capital of Neunkirchen, the city administration is currently facing a financial challenge, because the budget 2025 shows a minus of 7.5 million euros. SPÖ City Councilor Peter Spicker surprisingly presents a zero budget at the upcoming municipal council meeting on December 9th, which means that neither income nor expenses are in plus or minus. "I would hardly have believed that myself," admits Spicker, underlining the difficult economic framework that the city has to cope with. This decision can be seen in particular against the background of significant debts of a total of 20 million euros, which is burdened by Neunkirchen.

But there are also positive news from the neighboring city of Ternitz. Here Peter Spicker is pleased with an impressive reduction in the deficit in the 2011 invoice from around 1.07 million euros to only 319,042 euros. This gratifying development is favored, among other things, by higher earnings from federal profit shares and demands allocations as well as unexpected income from the property. "146,000 euros came in in just three months through property raps," explains Spicker. Although the borrowing in the library recorded by 3,000 declines, additional income of 5,000 euros was still achieved, which shows that positive aspects can become visible even in difficult times.

a swipe for Neunkirchen

Spicker takes the opportunity to take a swipe towards his colleague from Neunkirchen, Financial City Councilor Peter Teix. With a subtle comment, he notes that he had learned from Teix's earlier dimensions to create a budget, "he obviously not". This illustrates the political tensions between the two communities and their different financial strategies. Ternitz seems to have taken the right steps towards budget discipline, while Neunkirchen is fighting with a zero budget and considerable debts.

The current financial situation in these two cities shows how important clever planning and unexpected sources of income are to ensure financial stability. In particular, the efforts in Ternitz could serve as an example for Neunkirchen to initiate its own financial renovation before the debt burden continues to grow.
