Medical milestone: 120 students start new university clinics!
A significant innovation in medical training and care has taken place in Lower Austria today. In a joint project with Danube Private University (DPU), the state clinics are transformed into Wr. Neustadt, Neunkirchen and Hochegg in university clinics. This change begins today with the start of 120 students who will start their first semester in the new institutions.
This development represents a crucial step to optimize medical care in the thermal region. By cooperation with the DPU, the university clinics now receive the role of training centers for prospective doctors. "These initiatives create the basis for keeping more young doctors in Lower Austria after their training," said State Councilor Ludwig Schleritzko.
science and practice combined
The university clinics will now act as centers for research and teaching, a measure that benefits the high quality standards of medical care in the region. "This is a confirmation of our standards. The students benefit from the practical training through our highly qualified staff," continued Schleritzko.
The appointment of the clinics as university clinics not only means a qualitative upgrading for training, but also for the treatment of patients. NÖ LGA board member Alfred Zens emphasizes that the cooperation ensures that the most modern treatment methods are used and the next generation is optimally trained by doctors.
Mayor Klaus Schneeberger underlines the importance of this development for the city of Wiener Neustadt: "With the start of the master's degree in human medicine, Wiener Neustadt is now officially a university city!" The new course enhances the health cluster and the research institutions and complements the existing health courses at the university of applied sciences.
Robert Wagner, director of the DPU, emphasizes that the training of doctors in the region contributes to the fact that young people take responsibility for their medical care. It is also positive that half of the new students come from Lower Austria.
dr. Silvia Bodi, Managing Director of the Thermal region, is proud of the contribution that the clinics have made to accredit human medicine studies. The students are taught according to the highest standards at these locations.
An important aspect of this new training is the distribution of specialized subjects to the various clinics: Psychiatry and orthopedics are on the curriculum in Neunkirchen, while pneumology is taught in Hochegg. The University Clinic Wiener Neustadt offers a comprehensive program that immerse yourself in all departments and especially in plastic surgery.
The theoretical training takes place at the City Campus Wiener Neustadt and in the technology and research center, while practical experience is gained directly in the university clinics. This includes teaching at the bedside as well as internships and the clinical-practical year (KPJ). The Famulatures and the KPJ can be completed at all locations of the state clinics.
The first students now have the opportunity to learn in a dynamic environment, which is an advantage for both future doctors and for patients. It remains to be seen how these changes affect the health system in the region in the long term, but the initial signs show promising forward.
