New ASA warning system in DAB+ Radios revolutionizes security
The newly introduced "automatic safety Alert" (ASA) system in digital radios revolutionizes security in crisis situations, even in the event of power outages. This innovation offers life -saving warnings directly via DAB+ radios, regardless of an internet connection.
The rapid transmission of security reports by ASA ensures that the population is reliably informed in emergencies such as natural disasters or evacuations. Especially against the background of events such as the flood in Poland and the severe storms in Lower Austria, it becomes clear how mobile phone networks can be overloaded in such situations.
The ASA system remains active thanks to the high-tower-high power strategy and emergency power supply of the DAB+ transmitter even during nationwide power failures. This reliability ensures that vital information is passed on, even if other communication channels fail.
Frontier Smart Technologies presented the prototype new DAB+ digital radios with ASA standard at IFA 2024. This technology is expected to be available on the market from summer 2025 and will further strengthen the safety of the population. Over 1.2 million people in Austria already use DAB+ radios regularly, which means that the range of the ASA system is considerable.
The introduction of ASA in DAB+ Radios sets a new benchmark for the quick and reliable warning of the population. In the future, smart home systems could also be equipped with ASA to further improve security. The importance of this innovation is explained in detail as part of an RTR workshop in October.
The Digitalradio Austria association plays an important role in promoting digital radio technologies and the safety of the population. Further information is available on your website at www.dabplus.at.
