New Radhighway in Vienna: Diagonal crossing ensures more security!

With a future -oriented project, Vienna brings a breath of fresh air to its cycling infrastructure! From December 9th, cyclists can drive comfortably and safely in both directions on a new, around 500 meter long and 3.5 meter wide two-direction cycle path in HERIDLGASSE. This innovation, which serves as an important gap in the "Radhighay Süd", was welcomed by mobility councilor Ulli Sima and district head Marcus Franz and is a significant progress for the bike path in the 10th district, as Meinbezirk.at reported.

The highlight of this cycle path is the first introduction of a diagonal crossing for cyclists about the most important crossing between HERIDLGASS, Gudrunstraße and Sonnwendgasse. This innovative solution significantly reduces the waiting times for cyclists by being able to reach the new bike path with just one crossing step. With additional measures such as increased road cross -sections and planting 14 new trees, not only security, but also the quality of life in the area is significantly increased. District head Franz praises: "The Herndlgasse bike gap closure brings more calm and security!" This represents an important milestone for the cycling -friendly redesign of the district, as also from wien.gv.at.

a perfect connection for cyclists

After the HERIDLGASSE concludes, only one final gap remains to be closed, which is expected due to the redesign of Argentinierstrasse. This project will enable cyclists to drive from the city center to the border to Lower Austria on the bike paths specially intended in the future. The new infrastructures are part of a comprehensive cycle path offensive that will be funded by 2025 with an investment volume of at least 100 million euros.

The advancing extensions and the continuously increasing number of users show that Vienna is on the right track. The proportion of everyday paths covered with the bike rose to 10 percent last year. These new measures are a clear step into a climate -friendly and sustainable future of the city.
