Voluntary fire brigades practice in Ebersdorf: rescue after train accident
In the Mistelbach district, a remarkable exercise of the volunteer fire brigades, which is carried out every year in a different location, was recently carried out. This year was the focus of the exercise in Ebersdorf on Zaya, where fire brigade members from the area moved to a simulated emergency. During this exercise, a serious traffic accident between a train and a car that demanded numerous victims was replaced.
The accident presented the forces with massive challenges. A car had collided with a train from the Landesbahn association, and two people were trapped in the vehicle. The rapid medical care was important, as several train passengers were injured or in panic they had left the scene. The alarm of everyone involved was triggered around 4 p.m. and the local fire brigade in Ebersdorf was used first. Immediately started with the initial measures, which included the protection of the accident location and the care of the injured.
coordination of the assistance
In addition to the alarm of the Ebersdorf fire brigade, the fire brigades from the surrounding communities such as Prinzendorf/Rannersdorf, Wilfersdorf, Bullendorf and Hobersdorf quickly arrived. The operations management quickly took the coordination of all measures in order to efficiently control the different areas of responsibility. The Prinzendorf fire brigade in particular showed up quickly and professionally when the trapped people were rescued. Supported by the colleagues from Hobersdorf, the two injuries were quickly freed and brought to safety.

When the dawn broke out and the temperatures sank, it was decided to consult the Austrian rescue dog brigade. The dog handlers divided the extensive search area into three zones and immediately searched for the search. The operations management also had modern technical aids to monitor the course of the search in real time.
After intensive search, the first missing person could be found after around 30 minutes. At the end of the exercise, all six departure people were safely brought back within 1.5 hours, which demonstrated the success of the coordination carried out.
After the exercise, a debriefing took place in the fire station Ebersdorf. Here the processes of the exercise were analyzed and possible potential for improvement was discussed. The participants were then provided with food and drinks to end the day together. A total of 49 fire brigade members of five different fire brigades as well as 11 dog handler and 4 helpers of the rescue dog brigade and three members of the Landesbahn association took part in the successful exercise.
