Trucks for the future: Workshops on traffic safety in schools

In an exciting event at the Sportmittelschule (SMS) Tulln, schoolchildren are brought closer to the world of trucks (trucks). In cooperation with Gnant GmbH from Wimmersdorf, the young people were not only able to gain theoretical knowledge, but were also allowed to explore the truck directly. This gives you a realistic insight into the role of truck in transportation and the important function that he fulfills in our daily life.

A central theme of the workshops was traffic safety. The students: Inside, clear explanations about the so-called "dead corner"-the areas that a truck driver simply cannot see due to the construction of the vehicle cannot see. Through the landing drawings and a practical review in the cab, the teenagers learned where they should be a pedestrian: in or cyclists: best position in to be seen more safely. "It is important that children and adolescents are aware of the dangers of road traffic," explains Markus Fischer, specialist group chairman of the Lower Austria goods transportation industry in the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce.

theory and practice in focus

The workshop manager Cathérine Hülmbauer not only presented safety aspects, but also discussed with the students: also about the costs and environmental compatibility of truck traffic. Many were surprised to hear that a large part of all foods are transported by truck and that there are alternative training paths such as the combined teaching "professional drivers: in-kfz mechanic: in". This teaching can be started immediately after the compulsory school leaving certificate and opens many doors in the transport industry.

The campaign, which was launched in 2016 by the "Freight Transport Trading" of the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce in 2016, is designed not only to indicate the importance of freight transport, but also to inspire pupils for professions in this sector. Originally only designed for elementary schools, middle schools have also been included in travel planning since May 2019.

So far, the initiative has already reached around 10,400 students. A considerable success that shows how important it is to raise awareness of the transport industry. The informative workshop at the SMS Tulln is part of this broad strategy to focus on education and security.

At the end of the event, the students received a certificate in the inside, which the school distinguished the school as "especially for the traffic safety of the students". The Gnant GmbH truck not only imparted knowledge, but also ensured that traffic formation is becoming more important.
