Tractor accident in Schrambach: Drunk driver ends up in the stream

In the night of Tuesday there was a spectacular accident in the Lilienfeld district when a tractor driver drove his vehicle into the Schrambach. The 37-year-old had lost control with his tractor and a wooden trailer and landed in the water. When the police arrived, the driver was heavily alcoholic and was difficult to leave the cabin of the tractor.

The incident occurred on Morigrabenstrasse around 9:40 p.m. The tractor was found with a torn front axle and a fallen pendant in the stream bed. According to reports from the police, the driver was unharmed, which did not hide the high alcohol content in his blood. An alkomatt test on site confirmed the suspicion and the driver's license was immediately withdrawn.

Environmental risk from fuel leakage

Another problem was the flooding of fuel that occurred in the accident. As a result, the water rights authority ordered measures to clean the water. An oil lock was installed in the stream to protect the contaminated water. The Marktl company fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigades from Schrambach and Hainfeld were used to skim off the fuel. This elaborate use ended around 1.30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

The area authorities react very seriously to such incidents. The driver is now displayed at the district administration, which could result in legal consequences. The request to leave the vehicle was only the first step in a series of measures that aim at the responsibility and safety of all road users.

It again becomes clear how dangerous alcohol can be at the wheel, and even in a rural area like Lilienfeld. The results are often not only catastrophic for the driver, but also a risk for the environment, which underlines the need for a quick reaction by the emergency services.
