Now.: Waldviertler indie rock band celebrates debut album out!
The indie music scene sees a new light with the band "Now.", consisting of the native of Waldviertel Florian Koch and Valentin Bröderbauer as well as Constantin Kaiser, who have been gathered since 2020. On Friday, on time for the publication of her debut album "Out", the regional press spoke to the two front men about their musical journey and what is behind their new band.
The band was created from a previous collaboration between Florian and Valentin, who met in the search for a new bass player for their then group "Amalea". "However, we knew each other before," explains Constantin, while Valentin adds that the three harmonized well from the start.
The meaning of the name "now."
How did the name "now."? Valentin explains that the name arose in a time of major social changes during covid pandemic. "Now the time is for us," became a leitmotif to be creative and use the newly won time productively. Constantin adds that the name fits your identity and that you have deliberately decided against a search engine -friendly option because the name has a deeper meaning for you.
Personal and social issues played a major role in the creation of the album "Out". "Our music is a mouthpiece for what moves us," says Valentin. The songs often reflect current concerns, such as the fast pace of the modern world and the emotional loss from constant media consumption. "In 'numb' we address the dull while 'out' treats fast pace," he explains.
The album combines old and new compositions and presents the band's creative process. According to Constantin, it is a kind of gift to itself that at the same time spans the bow from its original creative process to the present. It becomes clear that the band consciousness formation during the pandemic contributed significantly to creativity.
When asked what message you want to give your audience, Valentin clarifies that you primarily want to express encouragement. "It should appeal to people who may be in difficult life situations," he says, while Constantin adds that it is important to do something good for yourself.
musical identity and live experiences
A particularly emotional song for the band is "Numb". Both front men say that this song picks up many personal topics. Valentin reveals that he has a special connection to this song because the process of creating was magical: "We worked so intensively on the fact that everything was very clear and focused from the start."
The band experienced positive response during live performances. "The interaction with the audience is one of the most beautiful experiences," Constantin describes the dynamics during the concerts. He adds that the music can both spread and touch where it is necessary.
The two also hope for an exciting future for "now."; One goal is to perform at the Glastonbury Festival. Valentin says: "They are the small successes that you should celebrate on the way there."
Special attention to the band's creative process. Both emphasize that it is important not to force the process. "Some things take time and this time is important," says Valentin and thus underpins the importance of a natural development in the creative process.
In their texts, they show vulnerability, which plays a central role in creative expression for Valentin. "It is authentic to open up," he explains. The band is firmly convinced that every publication of music is an invitation for others to also be open.
