New wine stars: Jungwinczocompetetecetrophy inspires in Krems

The Jungwinzencompetecetrophy (JWCT) of the St. Urbanus Weinritter Ordenkollegium took place in the city of Krems. This happened as part of an exquisite four -course menu, to which about 150 guests were invited. This year was special because it was first awarded in four categories, which gave the event a new face.

A specialist jury worked for the evaluation of the wines in cooperation with the Krems wine school. The jurors had the difficult task of choosing the best wines of young winery, all of whom are graduates from the Krems and Vinohak wine school. The categories included "white wines green Veltliner classical", "white wines variety", "white wines strong" and "red wines".

results of the award

The winner was particularly remarkable in the category "White Wines variety". The mixed sentence in 2023 by Michael Breitenfelder, based in Kleinriedenthal in the Retzer Land, was already sold out and could therefore not be tasted. His wines enjoy great popularity and confirm the high quality, with numerous awards, including 9x in the wine salon and several sorts in competitions in Retz.

in the "Weißwines Vigen" category, Leonhard Hagenbüchl from Hohenwarth took third place with his red Veltlin reserve 2021. These wines have distinguished themselves through a 16-month maturation in the wooden barrel and produce a variety of flavors along their texture.

experts expressed a positive statement about the developments within the young winemaker. The quality of the submitted wines shows a remarkable increase. Many young winemakers bring fresh ideas with them and are increasingly turning to biological wine production. This happens in response to climate change and underlines the desire for environmentally conscious action.

A quote from Theresa Eder gets to the point: "In the future there will probably only be more biological viticulture, because consumers will no longer want everything else."

on the young winery competecetrophy

The JWCT has been awarded by St. Urbanus wine knight orders under the direction of Prior Johannes Hammer since 2016. The aim is to offer the young graduates of the Krems wine -growing school a platform to present and evaluate their wines. The participants may submit a maximum of three bottles per wine and three wines per operation, and only graduates from the past five years are entitled. This measure emphasizes the importance of innovation in viticulture and the promotion of young talents in the region.

Overall, this event not only shows the achievements of the young winemakers, but also the potential developments in the viticulture of the future, where biological practices are becoming increasingly important.
