Collected memories: their flowers for a unique herbarium
Collected memories: their flowers for a unique herbarium
In Krems, the Lower Austria State Gallery opens an exciting chapter of art on November 7, which attracts the hearts of flower lovers and storytellers. The renowned Swiss artist Regula Dettwiler starts an innovative collection campaign to collect dried and pressed flowers associated with personal memories of the donors. These unique plant images are transformed into an extraordinary work of art, a "herbarium of feelings", which will be presented in the final exhibition in May 2025.
"We are looking for stories that are hidden in the flowers. Each flower has its own narrative," said the artistic director Gerda Ridler. From wine leaves that are reminiscent of romantic walks, to tulips from birthday bouquets - everyone is invited to contribute their special plants. The artist will arrange the submitted plants on paper sheets and record the personal stories by hand.

The return of the pressed plants to the donors takes place according to the exhibition, with each participant receiving a small, personal herbarium as a souvenir. The delivery point for the dried flowers is the Arthothek Krems, which is located in Steiner Landstrasse 3/2 next to the State Gallery. The levy is possible between November 9 and December 7, 2024 on Thursdays to Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
"Flowers are not just beautiful objects; they have a deeper meaning in our lives," explains Ridler. "You are companions in the most important moments of our lives and wear messages of love, loss and joy." The State Gallery is looking forward to integrating the contributions of the visitors into this unique art project and capturing the variety of personal stories.
