Nature in the garden: Region 10 Vorwien sets new standards for environmental protection

The “10 Vorwien” region has taken an important step towards ecological garden maintenance by recognizing all municipalities in the region as nature in the garden communities. This award was given by the presentation of a certificate that recognizes the commitment to the sustainable care of public green spaces. This Initiative should not only protect the environment, but also the climate.

The communities involved, including Bisamberg, Enzersfeld, Großrußbach, and Korneuburg, rely on the natural design of their public green spaces. This happens, taking into account the principles of the Lower Austria environmental movement in the garden. As a result, these communities make a valuable contribution to the preservation of biodiversity in the region.

Inspiration for other regions

The regional spokesman Christian Gepp explained that the goal of this award could not only be seen in his own implementation. Rather, the small region would like to act as a model and show that community action in the sense of nature can be of great importance. "We would like to show that it is possible to do without chemical-synthetic pesticides and peat when maintaining green spaces, without having to make compromises in the attractiveness and diversity of the systems," said Gepp.

Nature in the garden has campaigned for ecological gardening in Lower Austria since its foundation in 1999. It is always ensured that gardens and green spaces are designed without the use of chemical-synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Compliance with these criteria is rewarded by awarding awards. In Lower Austria, impressive 493 of 573 municipalities are now recognized as nature in the garden communities, which corresponds to around 86 percent. This shows that environmentally friendly garden maintenance is strongly anchored in the region.
