Langenzersdorf talents shine at the Win tournament in Tyrol

On November 23 and 24, 2024, the Kufstein-Arena was the scene for the second round of the Win tournament series in Tyrol. The ATUS Langenzersdorf competed with a strong delegation, which included both experienced players and young talents. The athletes Pia Geineder and Iris Baumgartner as well as Jan Kolbert, Marvin Pernegger and Martin Baumgartner were there, who were supported by the supervisors Eva Geineder, Markus Geineder and Oliver Kolbert.

In an exciting competition, the two girls, Pia and Iris, represented the only participants in their category, which made the competition particularly challenging. But they mastered the tension with flying colors and were able to successfully assert themselves in the respective groups.

successful placements

PIA Geineder, who started number two in her group, had firmly decided to reach the podium places for the third time in the highest class in the girls' group. They had brought their previous success into the company of only two other athletes who came from Langenzersdorf: Milena Erak and herself. In the end, Pia won second place and only had to give up the number one Dorothea Alexandru. A remarkable competition was also against the youngest participant, Mia Wu, who became difficult for Pia while she clearly won the other games.

Iris Baumgartner, who went to her tournament as number three, also performed excellently. On the first day she remained undefeated and was able to win all five games. On Sunday, her balance was balanced with two wins and two defeats. Her narrow defeat after five sets against the future winner was particularly painful. This defeat may cost her the tournament victory in her group, but second place is still a remarkable performance for her, which now also means her ascent to the higher group one.

additional results and services

Jan Kolbert fought in Kirchbichl, but had to prove himself due to cancellations in group three. Despite his podium at the previous tournament, he was dealing with strong competition. In the end, he was able to gain valuable experience with a tenth place.

Marvin Pernegger also received an upgrade and competed in group ten. Here he was able to record success by winning three of nine games. There were some tight games that he had to hand in in the fifth set, but overall he was satisfied with his performance. Although he ultimately took eighth place, eight ranking points won could be credited to his efforts.

A particularly strong tournament played Martin Baumgartner. Despite his last third place, it was a challenge for him to prove each other in the higher group. With a strong record of four games won compared to five defeats and two short games, which he also lost in the fifth set, Martin came up with Seventh. With 73 ranking points he was the biggest winner of all Viennese table tennis athletes of this event.

Overall, the event was a complete success, enjoyed good number of participants and demonstrated the strength of the Vienna Table Tennis Association. The results show the potential of these committed athletes, who can develop through participation in the Win tournaments while they have to assert themselves against strong competitors at the same time.
