New mayor in Heldenberg: Thomas Glanz takes over despite internal tensions

In the municipality of Heldenberg, a change took place at the top. Thomas Glanz was elected as the new mayor after his predecessor Günter Brandstätter surprisingly laid down all of his offices. In the election, shine received eleven votes, while the ÖVP, which holds 16 mandates, competed with only 15 municipal councils present. Obviously there were internal differences within the group regarding the candidate.

a little more clarity brought the choice of the municipal board. Michaela Dodes-Thumfort and Walter Pendl were voted as good as unanimously, with only one voice being invalid. Dodes-Thumfort was chosen with 12 votes for the position of the new ÖVP vice mayor. These decisions could indicate a stabilization within the municipal policy that had been shaped by uncertainties in the past few weeks.

financial challenges

The latest municipal council meeting was not only an opportunity to choose a new mayor, but also a platform to shed light on the financial situation of the community. Thomas Glanz reported the damage caused by recent flood events. The church in Glaubendorf has hit it particularly hard, in which the repair costs cannot yet be estimated. Overall, the damage due to the flood amounts to 305,000 euros, but there are still many questions in the room, especially with regard to the stable wall and the slope in Glaubendorf.

In Großwetzdorf, the municipality is facing an additional financial position, since a civil engineer has to be commissioned for 9,000 euros to examine the damage. While some repairs have already been carried out, more are planned for the next year. These financial burdens present the municipality with serious challenges and cause solutions to improve the financial situation.

projects put on ice

As part of the tense financial situation, the municipality decided to postpone the planned photovoltaic project, which was estimated with an investment of 450,000 euros. Gloss explained that the community is currently thinking about how it can achieve additional income to compensate for the negative household. In order to create financial scope at short notice, some smaller loans are taken out.

On the current state of budget planning, it should be noted that two of the three SPÖ municipal councils contained the voice when voting on the estimate for 2025. This coordination illustrates the uncertain political situation and the need for more unity to bring the community into calmer fairway. The developments in Heldenberg raise questions and are carefully pursued by the municipal citizens, as in an article by www.meinbezirk.at is reported.
