Young Lower Austrians are committed to their communities

In Hollabrunn, young people actively take political discourse. A current survey by the Lower Austrian Association proves that the generation of between 16 and 29 years of age in municipal issues is very different than is often assumed. In fact, 31 percent of this age group are ready to get involved in their community, while 17 percent are already active, be it in clubs or in politics.

The result of this survey contradicts the widespread cliché that young people are not interested in local affairs. The respondents are particularly important for improving public transport and promoting leisure facilities, such as outdoor pools and playgrounds. In addition, there is a strong interest in the support of local suppliers and club activities.

engagement at the JVP Weinviertel conference

An effective example of this commitment was the Weinviertel conference of the young ÖVP. There were committed members there to prepare for the upcoming municipal council elections. The chairwoman of the Weinviertel-JVP, Claudia Pfeffer, emphasized the importance of the community decisions for the future: "The decisions that are made in the local council are future decisions and feel young community citizens directly. It is therefore extremely important to sit with the table."

In this sense, the event not only served to prepare for the elections, but also to exchange ideas and strategies for recruiting other young fellow citizens for political commitment. Sebastian Stark, the state chairman of the JVP Lower Austria, emphasized the strength of the organization with its broad presence in the region: "Our presence in Lower Austria with over 200 local groups and around 20,000 members strengthens us."

With a view to the municipal council elections, which take place on January 26, 2025, the JVP does everything possible to promote young and motivated members as future decision -makers. Anthony Grünsteidl, the state managing director, explains the goal: "We want to work out of our tacklers who are committed to the country and its people every day, and those responsible for responsibility in the municipal councils."

These initiatives of the young ÖVP impressively show that an imaginary trench between youth and politics often does not exist. Rather, it is the new ideas and the fresh wind that the young members bring to the political landscape, which can be an advantage for everyone involved.
