Salary debate in Lower Austria: politicians donate to the needy!
Salary debate in Lower Austria: politicians donate to the needy!
The political landscape in Lower Austria is head! In July 2024, the salaries of the members of the state government and the state parliament were raised by an impressive 9.7 percent. But that was not possible without controversy. The FPÖ, led by Herbert Kickl, originally called for a complete zero -wage round, which led to tensions within the government coalition. Finally, the ÖVP and the FPÖ agreed on a compromise, in which the government and state councils should earn for 6,700 euros and 6,000 euros more per year after a zero -wage round had previously occurred for a few months, such as noe.orf reported.
donations as a political signal
In the middle of these salary negotiations, Udo Landbauer planned to donate the salary plus to set a sign of solidarity in times of rising living costs. In an interview with the ORF "Report", he emphasized that the FPÖ state councils would not simply take their increase. The donations flowed to social markets and families that were affected by floods, although concrete information about the recipients failed to fail. This also happened, after Landbauer had not concretely underpinned a similar promise in autumn 2022, which raised questions, such as OTS reported.
But the story doesn't come to an end here! For 2025, ÖVP and FPÖ decided that there will be no salary increases for top politicians. This is perceived as a necessary and honest signal of solidarity in times of economic difficulties. Udo Landbauer explained that a full zero -wage round was the "cleanest and most proper way" and thus underlined the efforts of politics to take the challenges of citizens seriously. From July 1, 2025, the members of the state parliament will receive a moderate salary increase at the earliest, which is an important signal for many in view of the global economic situation.
