Turbulent times in Au am Leithaberge: Vice Mayor founds its own list

in the small community of Au am Leithaberge, known for their tranquil atmosphere and the close connection of their residents, a political change is bought. The mayor Martin Holzer, until recently a member of the ÖVP, will compete with his own list, "MFA - with each other for Au", for the municipal council election in January. This development follows a recent example from the neighboring community of Maria Lanzendorf, where the SPÖ mayor Peter Wolf left his party and founded its own citizen list.

The relationship between Holzer and the Mayor Reka Fekete had been tense for a long time. Rumors about a possible split off Holzer have been circulating since the summer, but at the time he had still asserted that he wanted to work with Fekete the rest of the term. Now everything is different: speculation has been true.

Historically, this is not the first division within the ÖVP in Au am Leithaberge. There was a similar case 14 years ago when a dispute broke out between party colleagues Josef Jandrinitsch and Herbert Mihaly. Mihaly finally won the mayoral election with his list for (Future alliance Mihaly). In the recent past, there were new elections after political differences in which the ÖVP, led by Fekete, recaptured the majority.

The current differences between Holzer and the Mayor relate to essential tasks and responsibility, according to Fekete. The mayor regrets the break: "My claim is to make decisions transparent and in the sense of all community citizens and to safeguard clear responsibilities. Unfortunately, the mayor has decided to compete with its own list in the 2025 municipal council election in 2025." Holzer also has these differences in content compared to the Kurier confirmed.

But Holzer doesn't stay alone. The municipal councilor Katharina Wukotitsch will also change with him to the new citizen list. Together with a strong team, says Holzer, one wants to ensure that the needs of the residents will continue to be heard and that they can actively participate in the design of the community. "We want to promote citizenship, clarity and cooperation," he assures.

In the coming weeks, more information will be announced on the new list. The emerging rivalries within the ÖVP and the establishment of new lists could change the political landscape in the municipality of Aue on the leading holder for a long time and influence future management.
