Visibility in the dark: Light campaign saves life on Lower Austria's streets!

As part of a large -scale campaign to increase traffic safety, the ÖAMTC and the police in Lower Austria created the "Pilot Lades instead of a ticket" campaign. In view of the dark autumn and winter months, which are characterized by fog and limited view, the measure was carried out at 21 locations. The statistics speak for themselves: In 2022, over 8,287 traffic accidents occurred in the dark throughout Austria, with 122 people killed, as well as reported .

The light action aims to raise awareness of the importance of a functioning vehicle lighting. At the latest initiative in Bruck an der Leitha, 13 vehicle drivers were stopped, the light systems of which had defects. Instead of punitive notes, they received valuable information on flights, while technicians from the ÖAMTC resolve the defect on site free of charge. A total of 10 lamps were replaced in this campaign and the headlights were hired three times. These measures are particularly important, since many drivers are often not noticeable when their lighting is defective or incorrectly, since they rely on automatic systems, such as mineebetzirk.at reported .

Both organizations emphasize how crucial a good visibility is in road traffic, especially in the dark months. The mobility club recommends car owners to carry out regular light checks to ensure their safety and that of other road users. Because as the head of the state transport department of the police, Willy Konrath, summarizes: "A functioning lighting system helps to prevent serious accidents and save lives."
