New face in the National Council: Walter Rosary at the top?

An exciting change shapes the Austrian National Council, since 73 of the newly elected MPs were not previously represented in parliament. With the logging in the 183 MPs, not only the upcoming legislative period is pending, but also the election of the new Presidium. The possible choice of Walter Rosenkranz, a representative of the Freedom of Austria (FPÖ), becomes the first parliamentary president of this camp.

The presidium line-up is almost certain: ÖVP MP Peter Haubner is expected to take over the post of the second president, while the SPÖ politician Doris Bures is set as the third president. The current mandate conditions are a clear picture: FPÖ with 57, ÖVP with 51, SPÖ with 41, Neos with 18 and the Greens with 16 representatives in the National Council.

The new faces in the National Council

The FPÖ provides the largest faction in the National Council with a total of 57 mandatars, including some unknown faces in this legislative period. Irene Eisenhut, a trade unionist from the police, as well as the Mödlinger municipal councilors Harald Thau and Lisa Gubik-Schuch, which are also active on the YouTube channel "FPÖ TV", are new to the parliamentary group. Another remarkable newcomer is Walter Rosenkranz, who has now been nominated for the FPÖ and previously worked as an echo.

The ÖVP only brings a new face to parliament with Harald Servus. Well -known politicians such as Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner and Interior Minister Gerhard Karner remain preserved. The ÖVP plans to continue to keep its experienced members in key positions to ensure stability and continuity.

An outstanding newcomer is the new SPÖ party leader Andreas Babler, who was elected as the top candidate on the federal list. He will probably have to resign his office as mayor of Traiskirchen, since the legal regulations and his party statute do not allow this. Wolfgang Kocevar, the mayor of Ebreichsdorf, also moves into the National Council.

The mandate distribution at a glance

At the Neos, the municipal councilor Gertraud Auinger Oberzaucher and the Junos chairwoman Sophie Wotschke will newly move into parliament. This party also remains present with Nikolaus Scherak and other established membership in the National Council. The Greens also only relieve known faces to parliament: Elisabeth Götze and Süleyman Zorba, who were already working in the last legislative period, continue their work.

These comprehensive changes and the new distribution of mandate clearly show the shifted political landscape in the Austrian National Council, which will significantly influence the upcoming political discussions and decisions.
