Modernization of the Gramatneusiedl train station: a profit for commuters and the environment

The conversion of the Gramatneusiedl train station, which is located on the Ostbahn, is now complete. Extensive investments of around 90 million euros were made over a period of two years, from 2022 to 2024. The aim was to transform the train station into a modern mobility hub. The new train station not only offers technical improvements in the rail systems, but also an appealing design of the forecourt.

The Ostbahn, as an essential part of one of the most important European rail connections, makes the Gramatneusiedl train station a central hub for commuters and for freight transport in the region. Judith Engel, director of ÖBB-Infrastructure AG, emphasizes the importance of this measure: "With the Gramatneusiedl train station, we have modernized another from several train stations along the Ostbahn Future Fit. This not only brings a more attractive, upgraded train station for our customers: inside, but also makes an important contribution to the long-term performance of the Ostbahn."

Modernization ensures that the railways can count on a punctual and trouble -free connection. The member of the state parliament Otto Auer emphasizes the importance of the train station for the region: "The Gramatneusiedl train station is an important hub for commuters from all over the region. I am pleased that when modernizing, care was taken to ensure that the users are created for all forms of mobility."

In addition to improving the rail systems, the traffic infrastructure around the train station was also optimized. The forecourt was designed in such a way that the bus access is now separated from the rest of the traffic and can be reached via generous walking and cycle paths. These measures should help increase mobility and ensure that the different means of transport are harmoniously connected.

The new P&R system was also spiced up. There are additional KISS & RIDE places as well as special women and family parking spaces. In addition, the infrastructural requirements for six new e-charging stations were created. Almost 200 modern and covered bicycle parking spaces are now available, which supports environmentally friendly mobility and offers travelers a safe way to park their bikes.

Mayor Thomas Schwab expresses himself positively about the modernizations carried out. "In particular, the redesign of the forecourt is a profit for the municipality. The optimized traffic routing ensures more security," he says. He also emphasizes that the new bus stops improve the bus offer and thus strengthen Gramatneusiedl as a mobility hustle and bustle.

The comprehensive modernization measures at Gramatneusiedl train station are a remarkable step in a future -oriented mobility design that will strengthen the region in both local public transport and in freight logistics, and represent another component on the way to a modern and networked traffic structure.
