Bomb threats lead to locking at train stations in Bregenz and Vienna

In late Thursday afternoon, the Bregenz train station was sealed off due to a bomb threat. The seriousness of the situation became clear when the police informed about an email threat to the State Police Directorate at around 5:00 p.m. This situation is part of a worrying development that has also affected other train stations in Graz, Linz, Salzburg, St. Pölten and Klagenfurt in the past few days.

The police suspect that all threats received were written by the same person. Investigations are in full swing, and the responsible authorities, including the state offices for state security and exemplary fighting (LSE), have initiated extensive measures. The author of the threat could threaten a prison sentence of several years, should it be identified and caught.

Investigations and legal consequences

Studies related to this bomb threat in close cooperation with the Directorate State Protection and Intelligence Service (DSN). The legal aspects initially relate to the dangerous threat and the landing for the land. Despite the measures carried out, only a few details are announced, which is partly due to the ongoing investigation.

In parallel to the threat in Bregenz, there was a similarly vague threat to Vienna-Schwechat Airport on Wednesday evening, which was sent to the airport authorities. This message contained hardly any information, so the police assume that there is no actual threat. A direct connection with the bomb threats against the train stations is most likely excluded.

It was emphasized by the authorities that bomb threats should never be regarded as a cavalier offense. In the event of a possible arrest, the polluter threatens strict punishments that can range from a prison sentence for up to several years. In addition to the train station in Bregenz, train stations in other cities also had to be temporarily evacuated due to similar threats. So the Graz main station was evacuated on Monday after a similar threat received by email.

The police also cleared the Linz main station after a threat was reported there on Tuesday. As with the other incidents, there was quickly all -clear after the area was thoroughly searched and no dangerous objects were found. The same happened at the Salzburg Central Station and in Klagenfurt.

Citizens are asked to stay calm and to report suspicious activities immediately. The situation is serious and requires quick action by the police and other security forces. While the investigation continues to intensify, the public remains on alert.
