90 years of life, love and adventure: Christmas in Sri Lanka!

Waldemar Rother celebrates its 90th birthday this year and looks back on a special connection to Sri Lanka. For the first time he traveled to Sri Lanka with his wife in 1979, where they were enthusiastic about the climate, the landscape and people. Based on these positive experiences, the couple decided to build a holiday home in Beruwela and has been visiting the country every year during the Christmas season.

Beruwela, located on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, has established itself as a popular travel destination and is known for its beautiful beaches. The clear water and the weighing coconut palms create an idyllic ambience. An upstream reef offers both divers and snorkelers excellent conditions to explore the underwater world.

attractions and cultural highlights

Despite its tourist attraction, the resort has preserved the charm of a small fishing village. In the area there are several historical buildings, including the Kechimalai mosque from the 13th or 14th century, as well as the Al-Abrar Mosque, the oldest mosque in the country, which is estimated on the year 920. The Kande-Viharaya Temple, built in 1734, also houses an impressive 50 meter high seated Buddha sculpture.

The range of Ayurveda applications in the hotels of Beruwela ensures wellness and relaxation. The fine, kilometer -long beaches with their gentle access to the sea invite you to swim all year round, the house reef acting as a wave breaker. Schnorkler and divers have the opportunity to observe a variety of colorful fish. There are also boat trips on the Bentota River, which leads through mangrove forests to the Little Adams Peak, the rise of over 600 steps of which offers a spectacular view of the landscape and the Indian ocean, as Meier's world trips report.
