Anniversary of the Leila association: Build bridges for a better future!

On Friday evening, the Leila association celebrated its impressive tenth anniversary in the Amstetten town hall. Monika Dirnberger, the association's chairwoman, proudly looked back on the beginnings: "I had a dream in 2015," she said at the anniversary celebration. With the support of numerous Amstettners, this dream came true: Leila, an association that is devoted to the voluntary support of children with non -German mother tongue. Since its foundation, Leila has accompanied over 190 children and has worked more than 20,000 voluntary learning lessons, such as Tips.at reported.

unique mentoring program

In contrast to conventional tutoring programs, Leila offers a platform for real encounters. The volunteer learning sponsors spend time with the children to not only promote their language skills, but also to create trust and confidence. "We build bridges and create connections - between generations and people with different origins," said Distelberger. Leila has been proud of the commitment of 137 learning sponsors in the past ten years, but demand remains high. Currently 27 learning sponsors are working, while new learning sponsors are urgently sought to work through the waiting lists and give more children a chance of a better future.

The successes of the association were also recognized by various awards, including the integration price of the State of Lower Austria in 2019. A total of 45 children supported in the last school year. Future activities include parents' evenings with linguistic priorities and other creative workshops that are intended to promote children's language skills. With the support of initiatives such as the Lower Austria quarter festival, the cultural exchange between different groups of origin is kept alive. That was the conclusion of Monika Distelberger: "These moments when a child suddenly understands that it is strong and can realize his dreams - these are the real miracles of our work".
