Hacker attacks shake Lower Austria: Tulln and Amstetten affected!
Tulln, Österreich - An alarming wave of hacker attacks rises via Lower Austria, and the cities of Tulln and Amstetten are particularly affected. In the night of Tuesday, February 11th, the servers of the municipality of Tulln were set out with a massive cyber attack, which led to significant restrictions in the administrative company. Data has been encrypted and access to the entire server infrastructure has been blocked. As the municipality reports, the jobs of around 200 employees are also affected by the effects, while the police have already initiated investigations. IT experts work with high pressure on a solution, but it is not yet clear whether data has been stolen or who is behind this attack.
In another incident, a company in Amstetten also hit the goal of cybercriminals. After the attack, the company received an ominous text file called "Uhilpmyii.Readme.txt", which contained a contact link from the hackers. However, the company decided not to respond to the claims and instead isolated its system to fix the encryption itself. So far, the amount of the damage caused has remained unclear, and here too there is responsibility for the cyber attacker in the dark. The press spokesman for the Lower Austria State Police Directorate, Stefan Loidl, noted that a connection between the incidents in Tulln and Amstetten "cannot be excluded", as kosmo.at reported.
action measures and current situation
After the attack in Tulln, the effects on various services become clear. Citizens cannot currently pay by card, and some services that have to access stored data are not available. However, the municipality has initiated measures to restore functionality as soon as possible. In the meantime, the city keeps the public informed about the current state of the situation up to date, as well as 5min.at . Due to emergency solutions, including handwritten cash books, an attempt is made to maintain the operation, while the hackers can continue to act in hidden and cause the damage.
