sustainability in Lower Austrian tourism

Lower Austrian tourism has increasingly geared towards sustainability principles. These are comprehensively examined in a current analysis, with the tourist sector playing an important role in the regional economy with over 15,422 employees. The contribution to the regional domestic product is 15.9 percent. Under the aspects of sustainable development, enjoyment festivals such as the "Wein autumn" and the "Pielachtal Dirndlfest" are excellent examples of the connection of culinary and culture.

The analysis recognizes weaknesses in socio-cultural sustainability, especially in the areas of employee satisfaction, payment and working hours. There is a need for a uniform sustainability strategy that bundles targeted support and marketing of sustainable tourism products. Nature conservation and education are supported by the two Lower Austrian national parks that actively work for relaxation and research.

The focus of the Reinisch winery, which is the focus of the “Sleep in the Weingarten” project, plays a central role in this sustainable development. The commitment to the environment and the appreciation of regional products are essential for the success and future of wine tourism in Lower Austria
