New shine for the oldest bookstore in Austria in Salzburg!
The oldest bookstore in Austria, the traditional Höllrigl bookstore in the Salzburg Ritzerbogen-Haus, closes from 8th January to February 18 for comprehensive renovation work. These measures are necessary because the facility is partially damaged and the building services is out of date, as the book trade company Morawa announced. The family -run company took over the bookstore on January 1, 2024 and sees modernization as a great responsibility. Managing Director Klaus Magele emphasizes that the unique atmosphere and the historical substance of the building should be retained and contemporary elements should be integrated at the same time in order to improve the comfort for customers, so Sn.at .
conversion work starts quickly
The renovation will take about five weeks and is planned for a new opening on February 19. The Höllrigl bookstore has over 400 years of history, and therefore special emphasis is placed on the preservation of the traditional architecture. In parallel to the renovation work, a pick-up and ordering station in the Höllrigl Charming Giftshop is set up at the University Square in order to continue to give visitors the opportunity to order and collect books. The construction work is carried out by a team of experienced experts, including the company Wagner & Partner and architect Timea Nagy. The bookstore, which originated in 1598, remains closed for fellow citizens during the conversion phase to create a modern shopping experience in a historical ambience.
