New platform for child safety: My way to school starts now!
Österreich - On August 12, 2025, the new online platform traffic safety.gv.at was launched. This initiative, which was initiated by the Ministry of Transport under the direction of Mobility Minister Peter Hanke and the Board of Trustees (KFV), is the aim of providing a central information hub to improve child safety in road traffic. The platform is intended to bundle measures, tips and actions on traffic safety and make it accessible to a wider public.
An important part of this initiative is the security figure "Helmi", which is supposed to work to raise awareness of children. As part of the upcoming school period, the “My School Way” campaign is started, a painting competition for children who wants to encourage creative thinking about road safety. The competition begins on September 1 and participation is possible until September 30th. The children should also motivate prices such as plush helmet and reflectorbarchen, while some works of art are presented in an online picture gallery.
focus on school beginners: inside
The focus is particularly on school beginners: inside, the so -called Taferl classlers. Minister Hanke emphasized the right of every child on a safe way to school and pointed out that in the transition period from the summer break at the beginning of school, it is particularly important to raise awareness of all road users: inside for mindfulness. This clarification is particularly relevant in view of the positive development in traffic safety, because in the past 30 years the number of children under the age of 15 has decreased continuously. In 2020, the number of crashed children in road traffic reached a low point with 48 fatalities in Germany. This includes 9,242 children who were affected in bicycle accidents and 7,306 children who have an accident in car accidents. This decline shows that measures to improve security have an effect. Nevertheless, there are still challenges, especially in traffic education, which must be funded by both parents and public institutions.
vision zero and planned measures
A central goal of the new platform and the associated initiatives is the Vision Zero, which provides to reduce the number of traffic fatalities in Austria to zero by 2050. In the meantime, the government has planned to halve both the number of traffic fats and those of seriously injured by 2030. Numerous measures are planned to achieve these ambitious goals. This includes, for example, a ban on e-mopeds on bike paths, the introduction of a helmet obligation for e-mopeds, e-scooters and e-bikes as well as the improvement of structural and infrastructural conditions for children in road traffic.
In traffic safety for children, planning measures also play a crucial role. This includes the identification and elimination of danger spots through school plans and the design of child -friendly infrastructures. Such measures can improve visibility and create more secure stops and sidewalks, which significantly increases the safety of the youngest road users.
