Nehammer clears up with FPÖ myth: coalition is not an option!
In the course of current political developments in Austria, Chancellor Karl Nehammer in his podcast "Karl, how are you?" illuminated the coalition negotiations with the SPÖ and the NEOS. He paid particular attention to the request for cooperation submitted by FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl. Nehammer emphasized that Kickl's concerns do not have the backing of the ÖVP and that the proposals, in particular with regard to the European Economic Area (EEA), were inadmissible for him. He pointed out that membership in the EEA for Austria would only mean a return to uncertainty, since this would lose Austria to lose participation in Brussels. This negative attitude also results from Kickl's statements about the Salzburg Festival, which Nehammer described as unacceptable. Therefore he sees the collaboration with the FPÖ as "no alternative".
FPÖ secures the coalition in Styria
Nehammer himself admitted that the prospects for an “anti-kick” coalition with the SPÖ have become lower. This becomes particularly clear because the SPÖ insists on new asset and inheritance taxes, which makes negotiations difficult. The political reality again shows that the FPÖ represents a serious power in the state policy, while Nehammer is fighting for the future course of the ÖVP and the challenges in the new coalition to take the concerns of voters seriously and at the same time maintain their own party politics. According to statements from the ÖVP, there are voices that demand the end of the old coalition talks about the "Austria-Lamp", which also complicates Nehammer's situation.
