Modern toilet facility in the Resselpark: comfort and accessibility for everyone!
On July 6, 2025, a modern and barrier-free toilet facility was put into operation in the Resselpark, which is intended to significantly improve the visitor experience. This new facility comprises three cabins and two pissoirs and is therefore geared towards the different needs of park visitors. The Resselpark, a popular meeting place on Karlsplatz, had no toilets until this facility was completed, which was a major problem for many visitors, especially on busy days and events. Now the new sanitary facilities should enable a quick toilet break and thus increase comfort in the park. Construction work for the facility started on March 12, which was celebrated in the presence of district manager Lea Halbwidl and environmental city councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky. "A success for the Wieden district," said Halb -Widl in an initial assessment. Completion has been expected from the city since then to significantly improve the infrastructure of the ring park.
The new toilet facility is looked after by its own staff who is responsible for cleanliness and operation. During the childcare times, the use of the cabins costs 50 cents, but the use outside of these times is free. For the security and well-being of the visitors, the lounge of the care staff are equipped with first aid cases, definitioner and emergency numbers. In addition, a guiding system is installed so that visitors can find the toilet system quickly and easily. The outer facade of the new system is greened, which represents another aspect of sustainable planning.
accessibility as an important aspect
The entire planning of the toilet facility follows the concept of accessibility, which is not only important for people with disabilities, but also benefits children, parents with strollers and older people. The social connection of accessibility is an important topic that is also dealt with in a report of the BBSR. Barriers in infrastructures can severely restrict people in their mobility, which makes the need for such projects all the more clear. The new toilet facility in the Resselpark thus takes an important step towards an inclusive society and contributes to improving the quality of life in Vienna.
The funding of the new public needs is through the decentralized budget of the city of Vienna, while the construction, maintenance, cleaning and maintenance is applied from the district budget. Since 2015, all new buildings of toilet facilities have been built in modular construction. These include at least one barrier -free module and a standard module in stainless steel construction, which underlines the modernity and functionality of the new facility.
