Massive renovation of the railway underpass in Loosdorf is now beginning!
On June 13, 2025, the general repair of the railway underpass began under the Westbahn in Loosdorf, Melk district. The official start of construction was prominently carried out by MP Richard Punz, Vice Mayor Ing. Birgit Batsch and representatives of the Lower Austria road service. This measure has become necessary because in the past massive time damage in the road area and on the walls of the underpass erected in 1998 were determined. In particular, water leaks in the area of the building joints are a recurring problem, which is now being resolved, such as ots reports.
The work includes the renovation of the floor slab, walls, as well as the repair of the Schrammborde and the renewal of the sealing and bituminous layers. Porr Bau GmbH Civil engineering from Krems will work as an executive company. The total costs for the renovation amount to around 450,000 euros, of which 400,000 euros are borne by the state of Lower Austria and 50,000 euros by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).
total lock during the construction work
In order to be able to carry out the repair work smoothly, the underpass is completely blocked during the construction period that lies during the summer vacation. Traffic is diverted via the L 5344, B 1, L 5342 and L 5246. The completion of the construction site is planned until August 24 to ensure that the work is completed in good time. infrastructure and public financing
The extensive repair measures are part of a more comprehensive discussion about the public infrastructure in Austria and Germany. In Germany, there are continuing challenges through underfunding, inefficient planning processes as well as a lack of coordination and transparency. These topics require massive investments in the coming years to ensure the security of the infrastructure and its adaptation to climate -neutral standards, such as [Pwc] (https://www.pwc.de/de/risk-regulatory/risk/capital-projects-and-infrastructure/so-geling-die-rei-deutschen-infrastructure. The demands on a sustainable and powerful infrastructure increase, while simultaneous state expenditure challenges the willingness to invest.
