Marterbauer demands Bonus-Malus system for older workers!

Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer plans to put an employer under pressure who do not create access for older workers. His proposal includes the introduction of bonus-malus systems to promote this development. At the moment, however, there is no agreement within the government on this important topic. In particular, Marterbauer criticizes that many employers complain about early retirement, but do not employ older employees themselves. This raises questions about responsibility in the economy.

The support for Marterbauer's proposal comes from the Chamber of Labor (AK). This is in favor of an incentive system that is intended to encourage the company to promote prevention and rehabilitation measures and to establish qualification initiatives for older workers. It is alarming that a quarter of the 25,000 medium-sized and larger companies in Austria do not employ 60- to 64-year-olds, which further exacerbates the situation on the labor market.

government initiative and pension package

In addition, a pension package has recently been discussed that is presented by the government to stabilize the pension system. The Austrian Trade Union Confederation (ÖGB) welcomes these initiatives, in particular the introduction of the partial retirement from 2026. This model enables older workers to gently slide into the pension, while they continue to receive good income and later receive a higher pension. The ÖGB sees this a socially secured and flexible way to keep people longer in working life.

However, there are also critical voices. The planned shortening of partial retirement is regarded as a negative aspect of the package. The ÖGB therefore demands incentives and relief to promote the employment of older workers. The 55+ campaign, which contributes to the reduction of long -term unemployment, is highlighted.

bonus-malus system and goals

A central proposal is the implementation of a specific incentive mechanism for the employment of older workers. In this system, companies that employ an above -average number of older employees could receive a bonus, while those with below -average employment would have to pay a painting. This procedure could contribute significantly to improve the financing base of the pension system by promoting the employment of older people.

Marterbauer also expressed that a departure and more regulations are necessary for future political measures. In particular, he says that earlier funding for climate -friendly behavior can no longer be financed and pleads for stricter measures, such as the ban on oil heating and determining clear standards.
