Mammoth finds at Langmannersdorf: Sensational insights into the Stone Age!
Langmannersdorf, Österreich - In a spectacular archaeological find, a farmer from Langmannersdorf, Erwin Engelhardt, has discovered numerous mammoth bones and stone appliances in his field. Under the direction of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), the remains that are around 25,000 years old were uncovered together with tools. According to Marc Handel from the ÖAW, the site shows that people hunted the mammoths at the time and processed parts of the animals on site. The excavations took place as part of the European research project Mamba, which deals with the research of mammoth bone collections in Central Europe. The well -known sites, including Willendorf and Krems, are thus expanding to include a significant new addition that could throw a new light on the hunting techniques and ways of life of people of the Paleolithic period, as noe.orf.at reports.
hidden treasures under the A5 discovered
At the same time, another significant site was excavated on the A5, at the beginning of the Drasenhofen bypass, which was discovered by the ASFINAG team. This "Kill site" comprises an area of around 16 square meters and dates to an age between 28,000 and 18,000 years. The discoveries include not only disassembled mammoth bones, but also tools that should give further insights into the way of life of people during the Paleolithic. According to Martin Krenn from the Federal Monument Office, this site is examined with the latest methods, which makes it one of the first of its kind in Austria. The comprehensive excavations in this area are part of a project with a budget of 2.4 million euros, which deeply illuminates the history of the region and assigns the creation of graves to the bell cups. These graves date between 2,600 and 2,200 BC, such as OE24.at indicated.Details | |
