Crisis summit in Slavkov: President discuss Europe's security!
At a historical meeting in Austerlitz Castle, the presidents of Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia came together to discuss the pressing challenges of the geopolitical situation. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen emphasized the need to strategically secure peace in the home countries and should draw a clear line for European security. "We have become witnesses to a historically unseen escalation in the past few weeks and days," said van der Bellen, in allusion to the unstable global political situation, which is strengthened by US President Donald Trump's announcements on trade wars and the suspension of military aid for Ukraine, reported Krone .
In the course of the summit, it became clear that the three countries represent different positions regarding Ukraine. Czech Republic President Petr Pavel said that Trump's announcements were temporary, while Slovak President Peter Pellegrini brought his dissatisfaction with the Ukrainian decision to stop the gastransite. This step could significantly damage the Slovak economy. While Austria does not provide military aid for reasons of neutrality, the Czech Republic is actively involved in the armaments initiative, while Slovakia is against further western arms deliveries, the concerns of Pellegrini in his statements during the press conference after the meeting, as from Kleine Zeitung reported.
divergent views and cross -border cooperation
Despite the different views on the military support of Ukraine, van der Bellen praised the successful collaboration of the three countries in recent years. He reminded of joint missions of rescue workers and celebrated the "high quality" of the cooperation in the humanitarian area. The Slavkov format, which was originally launched to promote cooperation, shows how important it is to maintain the dialogue despite different political points of view and to search for solutions together.
