Kraus crowns a tennis heroine and ends Tagger's victory run!

On August 10, 2025, an exciting final took place as part of the ITF-W75 tennis tournament in Amstetten, in which Sinja Kraus won the East Tyrolean Lilli Tagger. So Kraus not only set a sign in the Austrian tennis landscape, but also improved to 131 in tennis ranking, which is her best career ranking. In an interview with the ORF TV, Kraus was pleased with her title win at home and praised the outstanding performance of her opponent Tagger. This was called "mega performance" by Kraus himself, with Kraus believes in the potential of the 17-year-old. Tagger, on the other hand, congratulated Kraus and emphasized their game level, despite the lost victory chance.

In the first sentence, Kraus clearly dominated. Tagger had great difficulties in her serves and quickly fell 0: 4 behind, which led to the defeat of the sentence after 34 minutes. The second sentence was initially more exciting when Tagger gained momentum with a break to 2-1 and took the lead to 4: 2. But Kraus increased and did not let Tagger get away. Ultimately, Tagger recorded a total of 30 unchecked mistakes, compared to 19 at Kraus.

week full of successes and challenges

Tagger, who previously defeated the best-placed ÖTV player Julia Grabher with 7: 5, 6: 4 in the semifinals, was still proud of her performance and plans to spend a few days in her home country. She will then return to Varese to continue her training. With her reach into the final and a win of 50 WTA points, Tagger managed to improve from 513 to the TOP 400. Another success could lead to a jump to 357, which would be an important next step for the young player.

Tagger, known for her one-hand backhand, which is rarely seen on the tour, described her game as "mega-match" and was happy about the success against number one from Austria, Julia Grabher, who said that it was "not her day" and that she made many mistakes. Despite the defeat, Tagger plans to compete in Vienna at the ITF-W75 tournament in early September.

For Kraus, there are also exciting times. On Wednesday she will fly to New York to take part in the qualification for the US Open. The competition in Amstetten was a nice end to this important challenge in the international tennis circus.
