Wind power dispute: Carinthian FPÖ wants stricter rules for wind turbines!

In Carinthia it is bubbling in the wind power debate! After the referendum last week, all four state parliament parties have reached an unexpected agreement, which could now determine the future of wind energy in the region. The compromise stipulates that existing wind turbines and those are approved in approval procedures, while at the same time strict bans for new systems have been determined in particularly sensitive areas such as national parks. However, the freedom (FPÖ) are not entirely satisfied with the government's proposals. Her state chief Erwin Angerer said on Tuesday that the suggestions did not go far enough. He calls for a stricter ban on wind turbines above a height of 1,400 meters instead of the intended 1,800 meters.

The draft for a novella of the Carinthian Spatial Local Code states that 14 wind turbines are currently in operation and 32 more advanced are so advanced in the approval procedures that their establishment is possible regardless of the referendum. Angerer is convinced that the sum from 46 wind turbines will be the final upper limit for Carinthia. The government is commissioned to create special zones for wind power use in order to secure the approval of existing systems. Despite the compromise, the freedoms insist on additional conditions to maintain their consent to the amendment to the law on Thursday, reports Kaernten.ORF.AT.

Future of wind power in Carinthia?

The government proposed by the government could be a decisive course for the energy transition in Carinthia. While the government parties emphasize that they are serious, it remains to be seen how the FPÖ will react to their demands. The next decision is imminent, and the public interest remains high of how political negotiations will develop.

Another important point is that the FPÖ brings the ban on wind turbines on alpine pastures. Angerer makes it clear that this is imperative for your consent. This topic shows how polarized the discussion about renewable energies in Carinthia is, while the government is working towards a future -oriented solution.
