Villach shines orange: actions against violence against women 2024
In the period from November 25th to December 10th, 2024, the Club Villach from Soroptimist International conducts a variety of actions to draw attention to the serious topic of violence against women. These initiatives are characterized by the global "Orange the World" campaign, which draws international attention to this important topic.
November 25th is known worldwide as an international day against violence against women, while December 10 marks the international day of human rights. On this occasion, well -known buildings in Villach, such as the Evangelical Church at the city park and the Dinzlschloss, will also be immersed in orange light. In this way, a strong, visual sign of violence is set and an awareness of the problem is created.
traditional light march and performance
The Soroptimists invite the public to a traditional light march on November 27, which begins at 5 p.m. at the Evangelical Church at the city park. This march is accompanied by the Villach artist Simone Dueller, who will present texts and life stories by affected women together with Johanna Sadounig and the women's shelter Villach. These special readings should sensitize people and stimulate thought.
An impressive symbol of memory of the numerous female are the orange shoes that are exhibited in the shop windows Villachs. They commemorate the murdered women and illustrate the sad reality with which society is confronted: in 2024 there have already been 26 female.
Charity Christmas cookie stand
On Saturday, November 30, 2024, the Club Villach is once again organizing a charity Christmas cookie stand on the Villach weekly market. This also takes place as part of the "Orange the World" campaign. The Soroptimist community has made itself a lot of commitment to bake a variety of delicacies, including artistically decorated gingerbread and vanilla bakers, which make the regional bakers in great teamwork. The last edition of this delicious cookie was sold out last year.
With these activities, the Soroptimist Club Villach would like to raise awareness of violence against women and at the same time generate funds for supporting projects.
