Public buildings in Carinthia are shining orange: signs against violence
An important sign of violence against women and girls is currently being set in all of Carinthia. Publicly accessible buildings shine in orange to draw attention to this pressing problem. This campaign takes place as part of the "16 days against violence", which will be held throughout Austria from November 25th to December 10th.
The institutions that take part in this movement are the state hospitals under the direction of the Carinthian State Hospital Institute (KABEG). The employees wear orange during this time, which symbolizes their solidarity with the women concerned.
Special events and educational measures
The exhibition "Sugar bread and whip" was opened in the Villach State Hospital on November 25th at 1 p.m. This captivating exhibition organized by the city of Villach deals with the topic of violence and is intended to sensitize visitors to this topic. Vice Mayor Gerda Sandriesser was present at the opening and emphasized the importance of sensitization.
Not only in Villach, but also in the LKH Klagenfurt there are information stands that are open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help people address violence. This shows the committed attitude of the healthcare system to support those affected and give them the opportunity to talk about their experiences.
On the Kabeg side, it is also pointed out that many victims are often not willing to talk about the origin of their injuries. It is therefore particularly important that the employees are trained on how to document suspicious injuries and address correctly to prevent further damage.
The entire campaign, which culminates with the International Day of Human Rights on December 10, should not only create awareness, but also show concrete help for victims of violence.
help offers for those affected
For people who have become victims of violence, various help offers are available. These include the psychiatric emergency and crisis services in Carinthia, which offer support in mental emergencies. The contact details are simple and direct: Carinthia West under 0664 300 90 03 and Carinthia east at 0664 300 70 07.
In addition, people can also contact telephone counseling under number 142, which is available around the clock and does not require any name.
For children and adolescents and their supervisors, the "Council on Wire" hotline is available under 147, which is also anonymous and can be reached at any time. These advisory services are a significant step to offer people in emergencies the help they need.
There are also special offers for women, for example the women's helplines at 0800 222 555 and regional advice centers that support women and girls in emergencies. Men also have the opportunity to get help via the men's emergency call on 0800 246 247.
The ongoing events and information stands, together with the orange lighting of the buildings, are not only a sign of compassion, but also a call to everyone, talking about violence and taking help if necessary. In this sense, the “16 days against violence” campaign is to create great public awareness that can form the beginnings for a more profound change in society.
