Cellar fire in Villach: two injuries after the fire brigade at night

In the early morning hours of October 4, 2024, a basement fire occurred in Villach, in which two people were injured. The fire broke out in an apartment building and at around 5:30 a.m. there was an alarming use of the fire brigade. When the emergency services arrived, dense smoke was already getting out of the basement, which blocked the residents the escape route.

The two injured people were transported to the Landeskrankenhaus Villach with suspected flue gas poisoning, as the main fire station Villach announced. The smoke was so intense that the firefighters had to penetrate with thermal imaging cameras and several extinguishing pipes in the completely smoky basement. After a difficult search for the stove of the fire, the fire could be deleted quickly.

missions and rescue measures

The fire brigade used ventilation devices to suck the smoke out of the basement and freed the staircase with high -performance fans from smoke. The residents of the affected house were brought to safety as a precaution, but were soon allowed to return to their apartments after the situation was under control.

The exact circumstances that led to the fire are so far unclear. In addition to the main fire station Villach, the volunteer fire brigades Pogöriach and Fellach were also used to quickly master the situation. For further information on the cause of the fire, it remains to be seen whether investigations can provide additional details.
