Nassfeld, Österreich - On March 14th at 11:00 a.m., a serious avalanche accident occurred in the Nassfeld ski area, in which three Slovak snowboarders got into a snowboard avalanche. The men drove away from the marked slopes and triggered the avalanche. While two of the people got stuck in the snow to his neck, they managed to free themselves with the help of other skiers. The third snowboarder was pushed against a tree by the avalanche, but was also able to escape from the snow mass independently. A fourth man who had not yet entered the dangerous site alerted the rescue workers when the situation became critical, as Dolomitenstadt.at reported.
When it could not be ruled out that other people were buried under the snow masses, a search was initiated immediately. This included the use of avalanche probes, with the support of a total of around 30 emergency services from the Hermagor, Kötschach-Mauthen and Villach. Several avalanche hundreds and the ARA 3 rescue helicopter were also mobilized.
