Villach-Land: Fraudsters are the son-67-year-old loses money
A 67-year-old woman from the Villach-Land district was the victim of a brazen fraud when a stranger spent her son. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 2, around 7:00 p.m. when the woman received a message from the supposed family member via WhatsApp.
The fraudster deceptively deceived that his cell phone had fallen into the water and put the older lady under pressure to transfer a four -digit amount to a German account. After the first transfer, the perpetrator asked them to pay further, which the 67-year-old finally alerted. She got on track of the wrong identity and reported the incident at the State Police Directorate Carinthia.
The fraud in detail
The mesh of this fraud is not new, but the sometimes emotional stories that are told are repeatedly appealed. Often it is older people who are then tempted to impulsive acts in a kind of trust situation. In this case, the perpetrator used a popular communication platform to establish direct contact. The fact that he was a son reinforced confidence in his fake identity.
The police regularly warn of such attempts to fraud and recommends to be particularly careful and in doubt to contact family members or friends before transferring money. Increasing digitization has made it easier for fraudsters, so vigilance is offered.
Further information on the procedure of fraudsters and how potential victims can protect themselves, among other things, in a report on www.5min.at to be found.
