Villach extends bus timetables: More traffic for everyone!
With an extensive update of public transport in Villach on December 15th, a significant step to improve mobility in the city is initiated. The new timetables now offer passengers extended operating times, which means that the buses drive three hours longer from Monday to Friday - from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., in contrast to the previous times from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. This measure should not only affect city traffic, but also the suburban and micro-bus lines.
A remarkable detail is that the buses of line 5a will now be traveling every half hour. This extends the accessibility considerably and is likely to strengthen the St. Martin district and the lower fellach. In addition, passengers can drive with lines 5a and 5b for the first time from the timetable change on Sundays and public holidays, which was not possible in the past. The adjustments in the timetable also include improved changeover times at the Seebach stop (line 8) and four additional trips on line 1, which lead directly from the "Manhattan" district.
investments in the future
A total of 138 new bus courses are introduced with these innovations, which increases the bus kilometers by 16 percent to 1,709,491 kilometers. This is a big plus for users and is supported by the city administrations and the state of Carinthia with an investment of around one million euros annually. "We have taken as many steps than ever to improve the bus offer and close gaps," said Mayor Günther Albel (SPÖ). His goal is to encourage citizens to use public transport more.
These developments are the result of mobility surveys that have taken into account the wishes of the citizens. The positive response since the introduction of clock traffic two years ago already shows that the passenger numbers in Villach are continuously increasing. The city thus runs the risk of becoming a pioneer in the area of sustainable mobility, since more and more people will switch from private transport to buses.
