Villach receives a new primary supply center: Kabeg takes over
In a significant decision for health care in Carinthia, KABEG received the contract for the primary supply center (PVZ) in Villach. This information was confirmed by Matthias Krenn, the chairman of the Austrian Health Insurance Fund, to the ORF. The PVZ will be the second of its kind in Carinthia, according to the existing center in Klagenfurt-Annabichl.
The primary care center is viewed as an innovative model because it is operated by a hospital society, which is a rarity in Austria. Originally there was a private provider who performed as a competitor, but he withdrew his offer for Villach. "At KABEG, it was only crucial that they are also ready to fulfill the supply order that is legally set," said Krenn. This includes home visits and substitution therapies that are important for patient care.

The new center is built in the immediate vicinity of the Villach State Hospital in order to relieve the hospital legacies. Krenn noticed that the exact details of the medical professionals and the opening times still have to be determined. "This is now agreed in the contract," he said. The opening times will be based on the existing regulations in Klagenfurt-Annabichl and could also be expanded at the weekend in order to better meet the needs of patients.
The currently only primary supply center in Carinthia is open from Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The KABEG is reserved for further details because the negotiations are still in progress. However, a subsidiary of KABEG, which already operates psychosocial therapy centers, will be expected to lead the execution of the PVZ. As part of this initiative, tenders for further primary care centers in Spittal, Wolfsberg and Völkermarkt are also planned, with interested providers being determined by the beginning of next year.
With the establishment of the primary care center in Villach, a strategic measure to improve health care in the region is implemented, which is important for both patients and medical specialists. This means a further strengthening of the health infrastructure in Carinthia and goes hand in hand with the aim of ensuring needs -based medical care.
