Spö Velden chooses Gerd Kurath: Departure into new political times

At the SPÖ Velden am Wörthersee, there was an important realignment last night. The municipal party meeting took place in the youth guest house Cap Wörth, where the members set the course for the future. Under the direction of the previous Vice Mayor Markus Fantur and other municipal councils, the party experienced a turning point in advance. First of all, Markus Fantur , Manfred Kogler and Sandro Spendier unanimously confirmed in their positions, which underlines the unity within the party.

The meeting took place after Manfred Heissenberger provided his office as chairman of the community party organization. In a subsequent process, the delegated Gerd Kurath chose the new chairman. Kurath, who is already the managing chairman of the Federal Social Democratic Academics: Interior, Intellectual and Artist: Inside (BSA) in Villach, his conviction expressed that the SPÖ Velden will go into the future with a strong team. He emphasized the currently major challenges that arise due to increasing inflation and technological change, especially through artificial intelligence.

claims for financial support

In his statements, Kurath also called for stronger financial support for the municipalities. He made it clear that it was urgently necessary to redefine the structural financing issues between the federal, state and communities. "The municipalities must not be pushed into a petition role," he warned, and advocated an increase in the second residential tax and the local tax.

These claims were also supported by the mayor Ferdinand Vouk . In his speech, he focused on essential projects that are important for the community in the coming years. Vouk convinced with the request for more financial freedom and confirmed Kurath's argument that the municipalities should not appear as a supplicant in times of crisis.

The meeting also heard of Reinhart Rohr , the President of the Landtag and SPÖ district party leader in Villach, who, caused the social difficulties, caused by a wide variety of crises and was looking for solutions.

An exciting aspect of the discussion was the role of the SPÖ within a possible future government coalition. Kurath was open to participation, but pointed out that this should not happen at any price. Due to a clear point of view, the SPÖ should preserve its identity while it remains politically active at the same time.

In a short profile to Gerd Kurath it became clear that the 48-year-old could not only show political engagement, but also has extensive experience in administration. After he was head of the Carinthia State Press Service for over a decade, he is now working in the staff representative of the Office of the Carinthian State Government.

The new elections within the SPÖ Velden stand for a clear start and a strong commitment in times of great challenges. It remains to be seen whether the new approaches and strategies presented in the meeting will be fruited. However, the members are optimistic and willing to tackle these challenges together.
