Safe future for the field at the lake: flood protection project almost completed
In the picturesque field on the lake, there is high hopes for the flood protection project on Hoferbergbach, which is currently in the final phase. The aim is to complete the extensive protective measures by the end of the year, which were initiated after the serious flood damage in 2019. Disaster protection officer State Councilor Daniel Fellner has praised the progress of the work and underlines the urgency of these investments.
"The 2019 flood events left catastrophic damage. The protective measures now installed are not only important for local residents, but should also bring back a feeling of security," emphasizes Fellner. These measures amount to a proud 3.4 million euros, a sum that is also strongly supported by the residents.
protection against future floods
Governor Deputy Martin Gruber informs that flanking measures aim to channel future flood events in such a way that they flow safely and in a controlled manner below the B98 Millstätter Straße. "In recent years, strong storms in Carinthia have repeatedly caused considerable damage to the infrastructure. The prevention of such unpleasant events is therefore of great importance," says Gruber.
The way there was not always easy. "It is gratifying to see how the team of the torrent and avalanche construction, or WLV for short, has extensively upgraded the Hoferbergbach together with the Dutchwasserverband Tärbergbach in the past four years," said Mayor Michaela Oberlassnig. It emphasizes the future securing of the village of Feld am See in times of climate change.
construction progress and technical know-how
After the catastrophic flood event of November 19, 2019, the construction work was launched in October of the following year. The end of the last construction work in the area of barrier graduation is imminent, which is why the final completion of the entire project is expected this year.
The construction includes a flood -compatible channel that is designed for large amounts of water, as well as a 72.6 meter long slide -off lock. Impressive 1,815 cubic meters of transport concrete and 133.27 tons of reinforcement steel were used for these. This lock has an enormously high retention volume of 6,300 cubic meters. In addition, a new Murbrug and a bridge was deliberately integrated into the area to increase stability.
With these measures, you not only strive to improve security, but also hope to reduce future flood damage to a minimum. Further reports on the developments in Carinthia and the region can also be found on www.meinbezirk.at .
